Please Note:
Not all skill builders are offered during a seasonal series or at every available time.
Please pay careful attention to the skill level for each session. It's really frustrating for everyone if students take a session that is not appropriate for their current ability.
Confused as to your ability level? Beneath each skill builder title we have listed the appropriate level needed. Hopefully, this will assist you when registering for the perfect skill builder session. It is always best to expand your knowledge, taking sequential skill builders in order, using the skill levels as a guide. Nature's Yarns' staff will be happy to assist you in deciding which level you are ready to register for. See the current class schedule...
Skill Level Definition:
Beginner: No experience. These skill builder sessions are designed to introduce the beginner to successful, independent knitting/crocheting and learn the basic techniques or knows the basics, but wants a good review before taking Advanced Beginner.
Advanced Beginner: For knitting, the student has experience with casting on, knitting, purling and binding off, and may have experience with increasing and decreasing. For crochet, the student has experience with basic pattern stitches and may have experience with increasing and decreasing stitches. The student should be able to read simple knitting/crocheting instructions.
Intermediate: For knitting, the student is proficient in the skills listed in advanced beginner as well as work on circular and double point needles, work cable and yarn over patterns, and do simple finishing techniques. For crochet, the student is familiar with a variety of techniques, such as basic lace patterns and color patterns, midlevel shaping and finishing.
Advanced: The student is proficient in the skills listed in the intermediate level as well as work with intricate stitch patterns and multicolor techniques using fine threads and small needles, able to make pattern adjustments and have a refined finishing technique.
Skill Builder Sessions:
Techniques: Focuses on a broader range of techniques and skill development.
Project: A series of instructions planned to accomplish through skill builder work and homework, a specific project. Skill builders generally meet consecutively at the same time and day each week. Not all students will complete their project during the skill builder session and may be completed independently.
Registration:
Skill builders are sure to fill quickly so register early. Attendance maximum is set by the instructor. To ensure a spot, student should call or come see us in the shop until the on-line skill builder registration process is complete which will accept credit/debit cards. Instruction costs should be paid in full no later than the first skill builder session.
Unless otherwise stated our skill builders are for adults only (minimum age 12). As much as we love kids and pets they are not welcome in our adult skill builders. We reserve the right to ask a parent to leave if they arrive for an adult skill builder with a child who is not participating in the skill builder.
Skill builder session costs do not include materials or published patterns unless marked with an asterisk (*). We ask that each student purchase the necessary supplies from Nature's Yarns prior to the first skill builder session. Please call ahead or check the website (current not available) regarding necessary materials and pre-skill builder assignment (if any) . Please wind your yarn, if necessary, before the first skill builder session.
Skill Builder Discount Policy:
Students will receive a 10% discount on purchases of skill builder supplies (yarn, pattern, needles, gadgets, etc.) when purchased with skill builder session fee made prior to or on the first scheduled skill builder session.
Skill Builder Etiquette:
Please turn cell phones off or on vibrate during skill builder sessions. We ask that only those registered for skill builders attend. Thank you.
Refund Policy: Skill builder sessions require a minimum of three (3) students. The skill builder instructor will notify you by email and phone. If less than three (3) the class is subject to cancellation. We encourage each student to review the skill builder session dates and times offered to ensure the skill builder sessions of choice work with the student's schedule. Cancellations by student must be made at least a week (seven days) before the skill builder session starts in order to receive a 50% refund. After that date, fees are not refundable or transferable.
Return Policy: Returns of resaleable yarns (i.e. no smoke or other smells, labels intact, unused) must be made within 120 days of the purchase date on receipt. Nature's Yarns does not accept returns on needles, books, patterns, gadgets and kits.
Make-Up Skill Builder Session: This will be at the discretion of the instructor.
Skill Builder Session Cancellation: In the event the instructor needs to cancel, every effort will be made to timely communicate the cancellation to all registered students by email, telephone or website or by other means. Sessions cancelled in this manner will be re-scheduled at the same time and day of the next available week.
Inclement weather:
Call the shop on the day of the skill builder to verify that the skill builder will be rescheduled.

Free Knitting/Crocheting Help:
When you come to the shop with knitting/crocheting questions, we are usually eager to help. Unfortunately, as we get into our busy season we can't always give you our undivided attention. We will be offering free help sessions on three different occasions. These drop in sessions are designed for those who need a little bit of help on a specific project--they are not intended for people who want to learn how to knit. Feel free to join us at these times.
Nature's Yarns welcomes anyone interested in fiber arts to join us in our Gathering Room at one of our in-store events or classes . Or just sit, knit and chat out of the traffic.
